    Blah!

Lots going on, just not a lot of time to blog about it.  And hell, nobody reads this anyway, so what's the diff?  ;)

    Let's see...

Car stuff: Finished rebuilding all the Corvette amps last weekend.  For a 17 year old car stereo, it sounds pretty darn good, but it's got the "classic" Bose sound--great highs, mids ok, low bass pretty good, but *grrrr* there's like nothing right around 100-200 Hz.  Just like the Acoustimass 5 setup we had in the lving room.

More exciting was that I discovered that at one point in time there was a mouse colony living in the passenger door (check out the Cars photo album) who apparently lived on a diet of electrical wire insulation.  So, the majority of last weekend was spent splicing in new wiring.  Went without a hitch, now I'm just waiting for some new door insulation panels to come in from Eckler's and all the stereo/door work will be complete.

Haven't done anything with Descent, which is a shame as the 3d render stuff is pretty much complete, really only collision code, AI and sound remain.  I'm getting more inspired to complete it, there's just a ton of other stuff to do around the house.

I also finally put together a new PC to replace my 3-year-old P4 2.53GHz machine.  I have to say, this was the most lackluster machine I've ever built--usually you build a new machine and it's, "wow!  look how fast Windows loads!  Check out the frame rates in yada yada whatever!"  The new Pentium D 820 is more like, "Umm, is this any faster than my old machine????"

Hard drives have gotten nowhere in the last couple years, I've got a 16MB cache SATA 3Gb/sec drive and while I'm sure it benchmarks faster than a 5-year-old 2MB DeathStar, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference when using the machine day to day.  Blah.  Next machine will be an Athlon 64 X2, I'm done with Intel.  My two ancient (and cheap!) Athon XP 2000+'s are still kicking butt!

Ah, here's a wierd one:  They play music in our bathroom at work, and a couple days ago they were playing a.. awww crap, what was his name... ummm... pianist, plays with the Grateful Dead occasionally, umm...  Bruce Hornsby!  Anyway, the song reminded me of my wife's late brother, who was a big fan of Bruce Hornsby and who also happened to be a Housemartins fan--I remember that because the college band I was playing in was playing a Housemartins tune, really upbeat fun song.. but I couldn't remember the name of the song we played.

So, when I got back to my desk, I google'd (er actually I think it was MSN search, how do you use that as a verb?) Housemartins, which got me far enough to remember that the song we played was "Happy Hour", so I searched for Housemartins and "Happy Hour" and stumbled upon this blog:

Wow.  I guess if blogs have any purpose, they're to remind us that things can be much, much worse.  Here's another "classic" (which I actually ran into years ago when searching for "Potty Mouth Po" (don't ask :-p):

What's the chance that guy is going to have a cheery and happy adulthood :-/

    Anyway, gotta walk the dog!

    Toodles!
